For Seniors

Senior’s are an important and integral part of our communities. As the senior’s population continues to grow we need to be familiar with changing needs of our fathers, mothers, grandpa’s and grandma’s. This is why I have dedicated this portion of my website to address senior’s issues and needs.

According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, there are approximately 40,000 seniors living in about 700 retirement homes in Ontario. Within 25 years, the senior’s population in Ontario is expected to double to nearly 4.1 million. These facts point to the growing importance of senior’s issues and the need for elected representatives, like myself, to continue to raise issues such as the lack of Long Term Care facilities, the HST, and rising electricity prices in our communities and at Queen’s Park.

Whether you are looking for volunteer activity, trying to connect with your local Legion branch, training to run a marathon or wanting to start a small business there are many resources available to you. Senior’s bring experience and enthusiasm to many clubs and organizations across our province.

You may also be interested to know that I am currently working on Private Members Legislation to create a Power of Attorney Registry in an effort to stem growing elder abuse among our seniors. If you have questions or suggestions please don’t hesitate to contact me at john.otoole@pc.ola.org or by phone at 1-800-661-2433.

I trust that this section of my website will provide useful information and links for seniors in Durham.

Yours truly,

John R. O’Toole, MPP
